About

The Austin-based psych-rock band, The Black Angels, known for their distant rumble reminiscent of '70s garage rock, surprisingly went acoustic for a recent Tiny Desk concert at NPR Music offices. Singer Alex Maas had his own vocal mic to maintain the dreamy, otherworldly effect. The set included four songs, three from their 2010 album "Phosphene Dream," showcasing a mix of icy and rustic, cavernous and confined sensibilities. The Black Angels, formed in 2004, draw inspiration from the Velvet Underground and have released six studio albums and one compilation album, cementing their place in American psychedelic rock.
