About
Canadian musician Saya Gray recently took the Tiny Desk stage, following in the footsteps of her bass player fame from Daniel Caesar's 2018 performance. Known for her experimental pop songs, Gray's musical exploration is deeply rooted in her family's diverse musical background. Raised in Toronto's vibrant music scene, Gray's mother founded a music school, while her father, a jazz trumpeter, studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music.
Born in 1995 and of Japanese-Canadian descent, Gray began her musical journey playing piano before gravitating towards the bass at a young age. Over the years, she honed her craft playing in various bands, including as a touring bassist for Daniel Caesar, musical director for Willow Smith, and bassist for Liam Payne. In 2019, Gray started releasing her original music, culminating in albums and EPs like "19 Masters," "QWERTY," and "Saya."
With a sound that blends pop sensibilities with experimental undertones, Saya Gray's music reflects her willingness to push boundaries and try new things. Her Tiny Desk performance showcased her talent and versatility, cementing her as a rising star in the music industry.
