About

Brooklyn Rider, an innovative American string quartet known for their diverse and contemporary repertoire, recently graced the NPR Music offices with a captivating Tiny Desk Concert. The quartet, comprised of violinists Johnny Gandelsman and Colin Jacobsen, violist Nicholas Cords, and cellist Michael Nicolas, showcased their eclectic musical style by performing a saucy Armenian dance by Komitas, acquired during their travels with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble.

Brooklyn Rider is renowned for collaborating with artists from various genres and pushing the boundaries of classical music. They have performed at prestigious venues like Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, as well as at international festivals. The quartet's commitment to unveiling new repertory and fostering collaborations led them to establish the Stillwater Music Festival in 2006. Their versatility was further highlighted by being the only classical performers invited to the SXSW Festival in 2010.

In 2016, cellist Michael Nicolas joined Brooklyn Rider, adding a new dimension to their already dynamic sound. With their fiery performances and fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, Brooklyn Rider continues to captivate audiences and redefine the possibilities of string quartet music.
