About

Washington D.C.'s legendary go-go band Trouble Funk brought their electrifying rhythms and infectious energy to a recent Tiny Desk concert. Led by Big Tony Fisher, the 12-member collective delivered a high-octane performance that included iconic songs like "Pump Me Up," known for its appearance in popular tracks by Public Enemy and M/A/R/R/S. Other highlights from the concert included the buoyant horn melodies in "Grip It" and the classic call-and-response chants in "Let's Get Small." Their performance of "E Flat Boogie," their first hit in 1979, showcased Big Tony's powerful vocals. Trouble Funk, a pioneer of go-go music, helped popularize the genre in the Washington metropolitan area. Over the years, they have released numerous studio albums and live recordings, solidifying their place in American R&B and funk history. Despite the loss of keyboard player Robert "Syke Dyke" Reed in 2008, Trouble Funk continues to actively engage in the live-music scene in Washington, D.C.
