About

Indie rock band Dirty Projectors recently graced the Tiny Desk concert stage with a memorable performance that showcased their brilliance despite facing last-minute obstacles. With natural light fading due to the late arrival of the band, the organizers improvised with candles and LED panels to set the mood just in time for lead singer David Longstreth to deliver poignant lyrics like in "Right Now" from their 2018 album Lamp Lit Prose.

Formed in 2002 in Brooklyn, New York, Dirty Projectors is the brainchild of David Longstreth and has seen multiple lineup changes over the years. The band, known for their intricate music arrangements and quirky production, features a current lineup including Longstreth, Mike Daniel Johnson, Maia Friedman, Felicia Douglass, and Kristin Slipp.

Dirty Projectors have released eight studio albums, with notable works like Bitte Orca in 2009 and Swing Lo Magellan in 2012 garnering critical acclaim. Following the departure of vocalist Amber Coffman in 2013, Longstreth steered the project towards studio-based releases before reassembling a full band in 2018 with new members to tour in support of Lamp Lit Prose. The band's evolution and commitment to their craft were evident in their unique Tiny Desk performance, turning obstacles into magic with their talent and joyous energy on display.

In a notable reunion, former member Olga Bell rejoined Dirty Projectors in 2024 ahead of performances for an orchestral song cycle titled Song of the Earth, adding another chapter to the band's dynamic and ever-evolving journey in the indie rock scene.
