Soltani, a 27-year-old Austrian-Iranian musician born into a family of Iranian musicians, wowed the audience with his rare Giovanni Grancino cello from 1680, alongside a Stradivarius.
During the concert, Soltani exuded joy and creativity as he presented a mix of virtuosity, sweet lyricism, and fiery moments in his performances. His background includes being the principal cellist in Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, where he gained recognition for his rendition of Beethoven's Triple Concerto during the orchestra's 2015 tour.
Starting his cello journey at the young age of four, Soltani's dedication led him to study under acclaimed cellist Ivan Monighetti at the Basel Music Academy at just 12 years old. He further honed his skills at the Kronberg Academy in Germany and the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein. Currently serving as an artist in residence at the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague, Soltani's performance at the Tiny Desk concert was a testament to his exceptional musical style and skill, captivating the audience with his luminous tones and remarkable artistry.
